Cinematic by Design
Coming to market right before cinema’s exploration of full frame digital sensors began, the Leitz SUMMICRON-C lenses are the last of the modern spherical lenses designed for the Super 35 format, and as such hold many advantages over older lenses intended for the same format. The biggest advantage being that their “Super 35+” image circle, which makes them not just usable on larger sensors at certain formats, but the characteristics and artifacts outside the expected performance range make the images truly unique and interesting.
Comprising 11 focal lengths from 15 mm to 135 mm, the SUMMICRON-C series was designed with the cinematographer in mind. They offer authentic color rendition, natural focus transitions and fall off, and a creamy sharpness that captures everything from actresses to architecture with a humane and true representation. Skin tones remain soft and smooth while hard edges and fine details retain their contrast, making these one of the most versatile and requested sets of cine lenses available.
Small but Mighty
Advances in cine lens design allowed the SUMMICRON-C lenses to be smaller and more compact than other lenses with comparable performance. With all but the extreme focal lengths only 4” (101 mm) long and weighing between 2.9 and 3.4 pounds (1.3-1.6 kg), these lenses are perfect for small-build handheld shooting, Steadicam, stabilized rigs, aerial cinematography, and underwater work. Matched focus and iris ring locations as well as uniform 95mm front diameters mean lens changes and rig rebalancing are quick and easy.
After many years of success the production of the SUMMICRON-C lenses is ending and new lens sets will no longer be available for purchase. Leitz will continue to support the existing SUMMICRON-C owners and rental market with parts and service. While the lenses are no longer being produced, we expect them to continue working on countless features, series and commercials for many,
